what's a Gear Positioning Sensor? 850 96

The dealers thinks it's the GPS (over the phone), just wondering if anyone here knows - appreciate the advice!

My wife was driving, so this is 2nd hand.

Stopped at a stop sign and noticed the 'arrow' light on the dash was on. (winter Traction control indicatior i believe)

She also noticed the check engine light was on. She said she tried to go, but the engine just revved and she went nowhere. This went on for a few seconds and she jiggled the gear selector. (it was in drive). The car eventually went.

I drove it with no problems, but the winter traction light is blinking, and the check engine light is on. Also, the tranny mode switch by the shifter is blinking along with the dash light. Manual says this is a tranny problem and needs service.

Anybody familair with this problem? I've read up on the Shift-lock Microswitch and will look up my VIN. Great BBS!
