I need some advice. Two years ago, we purchased a 2001 S60 for our son THINKING it would be a great car for years to come. We've had crazy electrical issues since driving off the lot, but now, the car will not pass emissions inspection due to codes that relate to the tranny. The "transmission sevice required" and "check engine" lights are now also on. The car has approx. 160,000 miles. We took it to the 'stealership' where we were told within 5 minutes that we needed a new transmission to the tune of $4000, BUT they didn't recommended putting that much into the car. NO DUH! We decided to take the car to a tranmission shop we use for a second opinion. They also said the tranny needed replacement.

WHAT SHOULD WE DO WITH THIS CAR???? If I could get the thing to pass emissions, I (not my son) would drive it until the tranny quit all together. I am finding out through reading various info. that 2001 s60s are WELL knows for tranny problems. Figures!

If you were in my shoes, what would you do??? Sell to scrap yard for the metal? Sell outright...if so, what is reasonable? Other???
