Setting the remotes V70-XC70 2001

I took delivery of a 2001 XC in August and have nearly 6000 miles on it already. I truly enjoy the car as does my wife. Lately though, my remote only moves the drivers seat to the preset position but not the sideview mirror. If I use the button at the base of the seat, the mirror then responds. I"ve tried resetting the remote but no luck. I even tried trading remotes with my wife, resetting hers to my positions but even that won't work. It seems that the remotes are "permanetly" set to what they now are. Can someone post the "complete steps" for setting a remote control for the 2001 XC ? I might be doing something wrong and I would like to avoid a trip in for "un-needed" service. I have seen other posts regarding remotes that are acting funny but I'm hoping mine is an operator problem. Thanks to all who reply.
