Power Steering Noise 850 1997

My 850R (61 kms) intermittently emits a loud low pitched whine at low road/engine speeds when lock is applied, and even sometimes when steering straightahead. No idea if it does this at speed as there is too much other road noise to tell in any case. But it is intermittent and never at start up when things are cool.

Does not sound like typical belt squeal and the system doesn't feel snatchy. However, maybe with the one-belt-drives-all system, slippage sound is different ?

Fluid level is low, (no leaks now, but did have a leak repair by dealer before I bought it), so could it be air in the system ? I will top up and bleed it but wonder if anyone else has noticed this. Seems too soon for a PS pump to let go and would have expected it to be permanently noisy and more 'growly' in noise.

Any help appreciated.
