S80 non responsive shifter episode AGAIN S80 2005

Easter Sunday is such a fine day for a car problem. The shifter refuses to go into Park. I can get it to "R". It has happened several times to me and spouse, so it's a recurring problem. It's the 5 speed auto, not the manu-matic.

It seems the shifter trigger isn't able to be depressed completely therefore blocking access to "P". It also won't go lower than "4".

Anyone out there today who knows how to disassemble the shift lever handle to expose the workings of the trigger? I have the shift indicator trim plate removed and that's about it.

In this state the keys can't be removed from the ignition, so I'm a bit desperate for a solution.
