I bought an S60 AWD in spring. Time for the winter tires. I phoned my Swedish Garage and asked about the price of winter tires (gotta be Gislaveds or Nokians) and steel rims. They said that I can put winter tires on my alloy wheels. They didn't see the need. They also pointed out that steel wheels are more likely to bend if I hit one of our infamous potholes. The Volvo dealership didn't say anything like that.
What are the pros and cons of getting steel wheels for the winter tires? I have been told that it's much better for the tires not to have to be pulled off the rims every year. Unfortunately, leaving the tires on the rims doesn't mean I don't need to get them balanced every year. The weights fall off with all the potholes. o_O
I live in Quebec, with a lot of snow, a fair amount of slush, and salt on the roads. How bad is winter for alloy wheels?
