I was pretty happy that with a new fuel pump, the car started right up. (It just died on the way home, and had to be towed the rest of the way.) Unfortunately, the fuel "quick connect" connection at the tank now has a leak, and won't seal properly to the tube from the pump.
There is a little red gadget in under the rubber boot that has four tabs pointing up (towards the fuel line), and one of them broke off. I tried reconnecting without the red insert, but it still leaks. I don't know if the red insert is somehow important for a proper seal, or is there somehow other damage to whatever does seal to the pipe from the fuel pump?
Any suggestions for what to do next? Is it reasonably possible to replace the quick connect boot with regular fuel line? Is it likely that just replacing the red insert would cure the leak (trip to bone yard)?
Bright side of the situation is that the poor old neglected 240 gets to see some service ;-)
