I Replaced the front brake pads on our 2003 XC with OEM pads. I have done this on a number of our Volvo's over the years, never a problem. The car was braking normally before pad replacement. I carefully and slowly retrack the piston into the cylinder with a large C-Clamp.
When I test drove the car, the brakes fuction, but when pressed hard the pedal almost goes to the floor slowly and the braking is marginal.
It may be I need to bleed the system, but I have never experienced this happening on other brake jobs (as recent as front pad replacement on my 2004 V70.
With ABS is bleeding just a matter of cracking the bleed at each wheel, while another
person applies a steady pressure on the pedal?:?
Here is what baffels me: When I returned from the test drive, shut the engine off and stepped on the brake pedal, one can clearly hear what sounds like a small motor run while the pedal is pushed and while it is retuning to it's normal position. The sound does not seem to be comming from the ABS module, but forward, down lower and nearer the engine(??). No codes have appeared.
Any thoughts on what might have happened or the fix?
Thanks
