Tranny 616 ???? V70-XC70 2001

I found a reference to a transmission problem that is fixed with a software download #616. There are several posts in VolvoSpy regarding this topic. I'm lost, what is the problem that this is all about? How would I know if I have the problem in my car? Thanks all. Tom.
