Tire size "Volans' V70-XC70

I had a 96' 850 R. Now totaled so I have lot of parts and I wanted to put my Volans that had a tire size of 205/50/17 on it right now. I put them on my xc70 and it did two things it lowered it about 2 1/2 inches a d messed with the speed sensor. I was going 55mph and my speedo said I was going 45mph and wouldn't shift into over drive. So I took them off and put on the stock tires/rims. If I put some 215/55/17 on the Volans would they fit on my xc and drive and shift correctly. Or will I have to tell the CPU it has different tires on the car. Any help would be great thank
