What did you think of the 330i / 325 when shopping? S70 2000

I'm starting my research for my own car (the 2000 S70SE was for my wife) and would like to have your thoughts on the BMW 3 series group - without tooo much chest thumping (if possible :) )

I do not recognize either the S60 / 80 as being relevant to the S70 experience I've had - (which I continue to be overjoyed with after 25,000 kms)- same great dealer but totally different feel and style. The pricing issue is important (of course), but I will gladly wait an extra year to purchase the "right" car (with age comes patience - thank goodness!) without undue stretching.

So its "no preconception" shopping time again. Please...your opinions..about all brands!
