Map Pocket upgrade - Knee Bolster in Way... S70 1998

I found a matched color map pocket for my 1998 70-series. I figured it would be a quick-swap replacement for my scuffed-up and busted passenger side panel.

.. except I did not account for the beefy knee bolster that's bolted up under the glove box. I can't install the map pocket panel w that thing in place.

Can I remove it? Do I need it? Do I need to source one from a car where the map pocket was a stock setup?
