Beating a dead horse again...
I've had my transmission fluid replaced about 2 months ago for complaining about harsh shifts, there is a TSB for this and my dealer did the job, no questions asked, and they asked me to give them some feedback on its behavior. I did give the tranny the time to adapt itself to the new Dexron III.. well if it ever adapts to fluid change. Since then, the loud "thump" felt at highway speed when accelerating (passing) seems more civilized (read mostly gone), however the 3-4 upshift has never been smooth, and lately I feel the harshness in almost all gear upshifts once again. Intermittent I should say, but it is there. This morning, I thought I'd lost the whole drivetrain when I suddenly released the accelerator @60Kmph. A loud "thump" could be felt throughout the cockpit. I checked the fluid and it doesn't look like the brownish color I saw when they changed it. Nice red color and doesn't smell burnt. So I doubt the oil has anything to do with rough shifts. I then checked tire pressure, right on spec. Even tire wear all around and I thought I'd do a rotation since I've been running on my winter tires for the last 9,000 Kms without rotating them.
Anyone here have ideas or perhaps suggestions where to look at next time I bring the car in? Do you think this is harmful in the long run for the transmission and AWD parts? Only 29,000 Kms with numerous warranty issues.
What are you other XC owners have in terms of shifting? Is it smooth as silk or you have learned to live with the harshness?
Thanks!
