Transmission questions V70-XC70 2001

I have a 2001 XC with 7000 miles on it so far. Really like the car and the only problem is with the remotes acting strange once and awhile. I plan on having this looked into at the upcoming 7500 service. The questions I have have to do with the operation of the transmission. This car does have the Geartronic feature which I do use sometimes, mostly for fun, not necessity. My first question is, what is the correct engine RPMs while crusing at 60 mph? My tach registers 2100 at 60 mph. Is this correct for this car? The second question is a little harder to explain. While in the auto mode, if I move the gear shift to the Geartronic mode, the display will tell me what gear I am presently running in. For example, if cruising at 60 mph and I move to the Geartronic position, the display tells me I'm in 5th gear. Now, while cruising at 60 in the auto mode, at 2100 RPMs, if I accellerate briskly, the RPMs will jump to nearly 3000, and if I switch to the Geartronic mode, the display still tells me I'm in 5th gear. I would think the brisk accelleration would kick me down into 4th gear but not according to the display. If I really accellerate hard, the car does downshift and shifting to Geartronic mode will show that I'm in either 4th or even 3rd gear. The question finally becomes, what is the RPM change due to in the first situation if it is not due to a gear change? Is it caused by the turbo? How about a torque converter lock-up? I assume all is operating correctly but I just want to know what is going on. Thanks for reading this long post and for any info you can give me on transmission operation. Tom.
