I put a hole in the driver's side, outer CV boot, about an eighth of a inch long. I was fighting to get the new strut into place ( if you know why I was fighting to get the strut into place with a bottle jack pushing it upward and straps to prevent the strut from exploding outward at me, feel free to let me know. It was my fourth strut job but one that was insanely difficult ) and during the struggle, the strut pinched a hole in the boot. A drop of blackish grease came out. Now I face a choice that is roughly this: I can take the pearl white S-80 to the foreign mechanic guy about forty miles away who thinks I should have him install a Chinese copy of the entire axle with boots in place for $285 total or I can go to the dealership which has a pre-greased boot available for $72 which I then take to a pretty good mechanic called the "Car Whisperer" who will charge me an attorney's hourly fee to replace the boot on the factory axle, or I can do nothing for now but I think that boot spins and will spin itself dry of grease out that hole. I could do it myself but I don't know what happens once that axle spline slides out of the tranny.


What would you do ? Thank you for your time. And yes, to those of you who think "Haven't I read about this guy before ?", it's parked until I get that old timing belt and roller set out of there (114K with original parts everywhere)
