Hey guys. It's been a while since my last post, but I have been reading a lot here and there. Currently "rebuilding" a used engine for my car. Replacing all of the gaskets and seals except for the valve seals. I purchased a used engine, tore it down to the block (left the pistons in place) and am in the process of putting it back together. Have the head on and in the process of re-installing the hydraulic lifters, I noticed several of them have no play when pressing them down. I've never messed with lifters before and don't really know if they should move down a bit and then recover when pressed or if they should feel solid and not move at all. I'd say 3 or 4 on exhaust side and 3 or 4 on intake side are doing this. Still have the original engine, so I can swap any bad ones out with ones from it, but am unsure which ones to target. I know it would be best to purchase new lifters and not mix-and-match, but I have a pretty small budget and am trying to save all the $ I can. Any advice?
