Vehicle in great shape, still looks/drives like new @ 92k miles. Vehicle fails annual safety inspection for "RIGHT LOW BEAM HEADLIGHT BULB-OUT." No problem, buy new bulb, looks too inaccessible for me, so take it to reputable local garage specializing in SWEDISH CARS (Volvo&Saab) they replace bulb & spend hour trying to determine why NEW bulb won't light. (FYI: they test new bulb- it works fine). Swedish Garage determines NO ELEC CURRENT TO BULB, further determines headlight not receiving power from CENTRAL ELECTRONICS MODULE(CEM). NOTE: this problem only effects Right (passenger side)low beam Headlight bulb. Swedish garage apologetically informs me that C.E.M. (Central Electronics Module)would have to be replaced for this headlight (R.-L.B.) to function & would cost $1,612.00 for purchase & installation of New C.E.M.
Swedish Garage charged me very modest fee for diagnostic work and advised me to consult with Volvo, local Volvo dealer(s), or OnLine, before scheduling work. This garage has a good reputation, did not pressure me to do work NOW (I drove vehicle home).
DO I REALLY HAVE TO SPEND $1,600.00 PLUS DOLLARS TO FIX A HEADLIGHT?
Is there any REASONABLE alternative, like wiring Right L.B. Headlight to LEFT L.B. Headlight wiring harness? NOTE: ALL OTHER LIGHTS FUNCTION, including other L.B. Headlight. THE IS NO OTHER PROBLEM OR MALFUNCTION IN THIS VEHICLE (2006 Volvo S60 2.5T). The potential $1,600.00 investment would be for the sole purpose of fixing one Headlight.
PLEASE ADVISE?
