Get more light with less current draw.
I found nice replacement bulbs at www.dx.com their nr 146191
http://www.dx.com/s/146191 You need only 2 sets
Pop the lens covers out with a small screwdriver and
the front overhead lights go in with a little wiggling and work fine.
The light is white instead of yellow and it's much brighter at less current flow.
The rear courtesy lights are a bit of a problem since Volvo was switching the
ground and the new bulb is polarized. You can however, opt to have the rear
lights come on only when the doors open, and give up on switchable rear reading lights, which aren't a good feature for a driver at night anyway.
Here's the details to reverse polarity with no soldering.
*the assembly pops out with a small screwdriver.
*remove the large and small connectors
*press in the tabs to remove the black socket assembly that has the male connectors.
*Then carefully pry out the silver piece that holds the bulb and has the male
connector.
*Then grind the connector the same width as the pins for the large connector.
*There's a little spring clip at the forward end of the assembly that you press
in the little hole and release the latch to remove it. (The spring clip
interferes with installing the assembly with a slightly longer LED lamp.)
Set the new LED in place in the silver holder and press it back in its slot.
You may need to put some pressure on the center spring contact to get it home
and fully seated
* Replace the black socket part carefully checking that the two tabs and rear part are in their slots, then with the switch set in the center between on and off, press it home. Be sure to have the switch in the center or it will interfere.
* To install- Take the small connector and place it in the big socket (Black piece) on the pin facing front. it will slide on fine
then you will place the twin connector on the pin that you ground.
one side leaves the light on full time, and the other side works when the door opens. You can test it easily, with the doors closed the lights stay on for
20-30 seconds and time out, or they go out when you start the car.
This sounds worse than it is, the whole deal is only a few minutes per
light.
The rear lights pop in without the metal clip OK, and seem to hang in there fine.
