Hello All,
I have a 1999 XC. About a month ago my 17 year old daughter violently sneezed and lost control of the car. She drove off the road and hit a boulder on the driver's side (which she split in two) and then proceeded to hit a tree, also on the driver's side. Luckily she had her seat belt on and was not hurt at all. Because the car went into a ditch, it took two tow trucks to pull it out. The air bags did not deploy. The car is being fixed.
Immediately following the accident, even before the car was towed, I climbed inside and noticed a black rubber strip that looked like a windshield wiper blade hanging limply from the opening of the moon roof. At the time of impact, the moon roof was closed, but the sun screen was pulled back. This strip was hanging out just over the front passenger seat.
I am now trying to figure out where this strip goes. It appears the force of the impact "popped" this rubber strip out of place. I've asked the shop that is repairing the car to find out where this strip goes, but it hasn't been very responsive. To be fair, it is focusing on fixing the significant structural damage to the car.
Does anybody who has a XC know where this rubber strip came from? By the way, I did stop at my local Volvo dealership and it provided me with a couple of "exploded view" diagrams of the moon roof assembly and there are a two possible strips that are shown, but I'm not sure about either one. That's why I am reaching out to the Volvo community. Thank you to all who respond.
Hugh
