Heavy duty trunk struts & no reverse light S70 1998

I'm upgrading to heavy duty trunk struts as I got a spoiler. Any tips for DIY installation?

btw, my friend's 850 has no reverse light when he shifts to reverse on his auto. Gear is engaged as normal though, what could the fault be? Any contact or switches at the auto gear lever at fault?
