Wheel theory - do circumference and wieght matter? 850 1996

The June issue of Turbo has a great (IMHO) commentary and guide to lightweight wheels. In short, as most of you all probably know, you bet both circumference and weight of a wheel matter in the performance of your way cool machine. The more you increase the weight of the wheel, the more work it takes the engine to get it up to speed. And the greater the circumference the more you change your effective gear ratio.

So here are some questions.

* If a car performs better on smaller circumference, lighter wheels, why is everyone putting on these fancy, expensive, performance robbing 18" and up wheels?

* What are the best sizes and weights for our Volvo 850's?

What do you think?
