Incessant tailgate squeak V70-XC70 1998

I have two V70 1298 wagons, and both have the same tailgate squeak. I think it is the rubber bumpers/stops, but I keep lubricating them, which works for about a day or two, but the squeak returns. It is a high-pitched nightmare. I have tried silicone, vaseline, lithium grease, WD40, and brake/wheel bearing grease. Any suggestions for a better lubricant for rubber, or a different place to look for the source of the noise?
