How do you get a good start in a race?? 850 All

I have a 94 850 Turbo, and I rarely accelerate hard off the line, even if a kid pulls up next to me looking for action. But here and there I'd really like to really give that other car a run for their money. I know my car can, but I really don't know any good techniques of getting a good start off the line. I know that if you just stomp the gas pedal, all you'll get is turbo lag.... So how do you do this with out causing ANY kind of damage or excessive wear to the car? I've heard people mention torque loading. This being where you hold the brake and the gas let the turbo spool up then release the brake and hit the gas. But how hi can I bring the RPM's with out causing damage or stalling the car (What is the stall speed?)? Can this really be done with out causing any extreme stress on the tranny and engine? I also know that I can get past some of the lag by easing in the gas, letting the turbo spool up then really hitting the gas.

Just looking for some input, and any other special techniques others have found.

Thanks

Scott

PS-- Please don't go crazy, I'm talking about the good ole fun races almost everyone participates in here and there on the road...
