A/C recharge - how? V70-XC70 1998

Can this be done easily at home? If so, what product/brand do you recommend? And tips/instructions? Or is this something that can be done at an oil change shop? I know that they do recharge a/c's at plenty of oil change shops, but as we all know, Volvos are 'different' and I'm not sure if they require special treatment.
