1995 850 hood stuck 850

I had the drivers headlight out for some LED mods and pulled the drivers side
hood latch. On reinstallation, I messed up and mounted the latch too low and the
hood will not open.

I pulled the directional light unit out to try to find the hood latch lever, but
I cant see it.

I got vise grips on the unbroken cable end in the cabin and maybe with someone shoving the hood down the latch might release.

Maybe someone has another idea short of using a can opener on the hood?
