I just received a recall notice for my S70. Looks like they finally are fixing the turn signal bulb socket (I've never had a problem with it on my car). Here is the text of the notice:
August 2001
Dear Volvo Customer:
This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and
Motor Vehicle Safety Act.
The reason/or this campaign:
Volvo Cars of North America, Inc. has determined that a defect related to motor vehicle
safety exists in the front turn signal bulbs and sockets of model year 1998-2000 S70, V70
and C70 vehicles and certain model year 2001 C70 coupes and convertibles.
Volvo has found that there may be inadequate contact between the bulb and socket. This
may cause the turn signal to not function as designed. A defective front turn signal
assembly will cause the turn signal indicator and the corresponding rear turn signal bulb to
flash rapidly. Additionally, the affected front turn signal bulb may flash dimly or may not
flash at all.
The corrective action consists of replacing the left and right front turn signal bulb and
socket with a modified design.
While your vehicle is having this recall performed, your retailer will also complete an
upgrade to ex-tend the service life of your headlights, replace the headlight wiper stop lugs
and, if necessary, adjust the headlight wiper arms.

have been identified take those vehicles back to dealerships as soon as they receive notice
