Pwr Steering Fluid Change 850 1997

I have seen a few posting messages about changing the powersteering fluid. This prompted a few questions:

1. When?? Obviously when the fluid look/appears/smells burned or old. Preventitive changing?? I have 57K on mine.

2. How?? Is there a hose to loosen - a fill/drain plug?? Any suggestions.

3. Replacement fluid?? I realize the owner manual says to put ATF fluid in. Will synthetic like Amsoil work??
