I can save you the trouble...

SC-816 Preamp output DIN pinout

Looking at the DIN plug

Pin 1 Front Left

Pin 2 Front Right

Pin 3 Rear Right

Pin 4 Ground

Pin 5 Rear Left

Pin 6 +12v

I fed the equalizer with the front left and right outputs. (the radio's fader control must then be set fully to the front position). The Pin 6 12 source was not used. By the way, many thanks to fellow Brickboarder Pat for supplying me this pinout info and other valuable knowledge about the Volvo stereo.
