Re: Noise in upper seatback V70-XC70 1998

You can remove the center console and use the lead to gear selector illumination for your gauge lighting.

The console can be removed easily by:

1. grasp the trim that surrounds the park brake handle and slide it to the driver's seat side--straight to the left. Now slide the boot off end of p brake handle.

2. push the button in the center of each of the two connectors that you will see below p brake handle so that they can be unplugged

3. open the center console storage box and pry the bottom cover plate at rear up to remove. Undo the two screws.

4. Lift the rear of console up with p brake handle pulled up a bit and remove the console.

You will see the light bulb inserted into shifter assy on left. You can Scotch-lok onto the brown wire (I believe the brown is voltage, not ground but check it).

To reinstall you do all of this in reverse but you have to guide the front lower side forward edge of console onto the forward console on both sides to get it to engage correctly. If you don't have this edge engaged you will see the center console lower sides at front not flush fitted to the console sides forward of removed console.
