It appears Volvo's callous treatment of customers could be about to cost
them, big-time!
In today's snail mail I received 4 pages of fine print - Notice of pendency
of class action.... To all owners who purchased or leased from any source
a 94 or 95 850 Turbo equipped w/205/50-16 tires (or '94-'97 850R equipped
with 205/50-16 or 205/50-17 tires) prior to 2/18/99.
(Yeah, I know; someone should 'splain things to the attorneys, as they
refer to designations/combinations that never existed!)
Plaintiff commenced action February 1997. In her complaint, she alleges
that Volvo engaged in unlawful conduct in connection with the marketing,
sale, and lease of cars equipped with "low-profile tires" regarding the
durability and safety of these tires on these cars, and failed to disclose
the propensity of these particular tires to suffer premature tire failure
(incl blowouts) under routine driving conditions, causing the need for
costly tire replacement and often causing costly damages to the rims.
Volvo denies these allegations and denise any and all wrongdoing of any
kind whatsoever and any liability to the plaintiff/class.
Sought remedy includes 4 new tires or $1000 non-transferable credit towards
a new Volvo or $500 cash.
The paper announcement from these stone-age attorneys includes no email
address or web site url.

The attorneys are seeking fees of $4.1M. (Gee, I think for that much
they could have contacted me personally...) (It also says that Volvo
agrees that the amount is fair and reasonable.)
Let's see, what else?:
(f) Volvo represents that approx 35K 94-95 850 Turbo and 5K 94-97 850R
cars were sold/leased in U.S. during the Class Period.
If I wish to be excluded from the Class, I have 'til May 3 to inform
Plaintiff's Counsel, Stanley D. Bernstein. I've also been invited to
attend the settlement hearing (oh boy!).
(Maybe Stanley needs to know about the born-to-fail coolant reservoir caps
and upper engine mount bushings, and the stolen passenger seatback lumbar
adjustments in '95!!!?)
