The door handle and all the black body trim will turn gray (or white) if there is wax on it. To remove the wax, you can try to use a product called "Soft Scrub". It is available in most grocery store. It is used to clean countertop without scratching. Be carefull not to apply to the paint. After cleaning, then you can try your "black to black".
