center hood latch yoke

Was oiling door and engine hood hinges etc. earlier today and noticed that: the metal yoke inside the grill that yokes around a horizontal small metal pin and which assembly all gets pulled forward to unlatch the hood's center hook when you pull outboard/forward on the plastic tab protruding from the grill center ... has one of its two sides or ears partly broken off.

Since the one ear is broken and not holding onto the horizontal pin - part that broke out or off is the part that touches the pin when the tab is being pulled - I figure the second ear could break off anytime the hood is opened e.g. on the road, on a trip, etc. and then the engine compartment would be inaccessible when it is inconvenient or worse.

There a fix for this? Anyone seen this kind of break and repaired it other than by replacing the yoke?

Am thinking a right size flat washer laid against the remaining part of the broken yoke and connected to the remaining yoke with a very small bolt down a bit on the yoke arm from the break could work.

Sorry for length here. BTW car is 1996 model year, bought this past July, have put on an oe exhaust to replace the hotrod exhaust the car came with, car runs and drives great, has manual trans., car feels lightweight is peppy and economical, good personal driving car.
