99 V70 Alternator Rotation

Hello,

I got a dash light for the battery, Voltage seems ok, I removed the Alt because I have a bearing problem with the AC compressor I have to address anyway. I noticed while the alternator is out, that the pulley free spins in one direction. meaning that I can spin the pulley but the guts of the alternator don't spin. Only in one direction does this happen, the other direction it moves the guts fine.
Is this normal? I think no, because some Volvos w/o AC spin the alternator in the opposite direction. That would be impossible with this unit.
