Our '98 V70 (252K miles and going strong!) suddenly has a weird issue. The tailgate won't latch. The latch itself will click shut if I stick the shaft of a screwdriver in it, but it won't hold.

Our local pick-and-pull closed, so I can't get a replacement that way. Is this something that can be repaired by a somewhat capable DIYer?
