850 oil consumption 850 1997

My 97 850 needs about 3 quarts in-between 5K oil changes (90K miles, no leaks). Dealer mechanic says this is normal for the car. Find it hard to believe because my 88 240 (which has 211K miles and leaks front and rear) only needs 1 quart in-between 5K oil changes. Would like to hear from other 850 owners.
