Greetings,
I had my 850 T5 wagon serviced (110K main-dealer service) a few weeks ago - one day before driving from the UK down to the alps for a spot of skiing.
On the drive down to the alps I noticed the front brakes juddering a little under semi-hard braking - the braking was not hard enough to set off the ABS and the juddering was not like normal ABS operation.
This juddering did not always happen under such braking, but over the past three weeks the juddering (when it did happen) got worse. No ABS or other warning lights came on during this time.
Yesterday on the way to work the ABS light came on after some semi-hard braking (again not hard enough to engage ABS) and the light stayed on. On the way home the light was off initially, but again came on after some semi-hard braking, and then stayed on. Same thing this morning and at lunchtime. While the light was on, the ABS would not engage (I tested this on a quiet & straight road last night).
My initial thought about the juddering was warped brake disks (rotors I think the US guys call them). I checked the disks and pads about 6 weeks ago (when I had new tyres fitted) and they were fine (and of course it's also just been serviced and should have been checked then).
And now the ABS light comes on.
What could be causing this ? Could there have been a screw-up during the service.
Regards.
Nick Pitfield.
