I took my '96 854T to work at the day of races (corner working this weekend). So, it sat outside all day in blistering 15F heat, and when I started it up to go home, the CEL is now on (won't go off) and the car won't idle. It basically stumbles around 600rpm or a bit lower and then stalls, unless I feed it some gas. When I give the car a tap of gas, it stumbles for a fraction of a second. I drove it home (12 miles) and it drives perfectly normally, except for the idle issue and the CEL. I tried to see if there were any odd smells, fluids spewing and the like, and there are none. All vital fluids are at normal levels, and I couldn't find any wires loose under the hood.
Now, two questions. The obvious one, does anyone know what this is? And secondly, I need the car to drive down to the road course again (another 24 miles tomorrow) so is this okay to drive with the stumbling idle, or would I be doing damage? I was thinking it was an O2 sensor croaking on me, since I've been smelling a "rich" smell for months now, but my mechanic said, "at the time" that he checked it last week, it was running in spec, even w/his 4gas analyzer.
Any help would be greatfully appreciated folks!
Thanks,
