Engine Lights?? 850 1996

I had the check engine light go off in my car, and I tried a fix on the O2 sensor, which was the problem. I took Sin's advice, but did not have a torch. He said to use a torch and brake parts cleaner. So, I just used brake parts cleaner. Anyway, I put the sensor back in. Do I have to reset the engine light to find out if my fix worked? Is there any other way to find out if the fix worked?
