Hello all,
Symptoms:
1. I usually back up our driveway when I park the car. I noticed something unusual earlier after I shifted from ‘D’ to ‘N’ and paused for a second or two (I usually shift directly from ‘D’ to ‘R’). When I shifted to ‘R’ I felt a jolt (like a <5mph bump from another car) but no audible 'clunk'. I proceeded to drive backwards up the driveway and tried the same shifting sequence again. I got the same jolt. I tried a 3rd time and 4th time and it was gone. I could not repeat the symptom again.
2. I also noticed these past 2 months that when I slowed down to a stop at a set of lights I sometimes feel a slight jerk (shift from 2nd to 1st?). It is not always consistent (shifting sometimes does not seem to be as smooth as before).
My 1998 S70 GLT has 40k miles and has been well maintained (It is due for the 40k service next month). I checked the ATF a few weeks ago – it did not have a burnt smell but the fluid wasn’t exactly as pink as that on my wife’s S70 (22k miles).
Questions:
1. Are these normal symptoms of the tranny requiring the ATF replaced?
2. What other symptoms should I be looking out for? (Or should I not be too concerned?)
Again, thanks in advance.
