Faulty Cruise Control 850 1996

Hi! I have UK spec '96 MY 850 auto (B5252S). I use the cruise control regulary, but now all of a sudden it's not working properly.

Cruise will set, and maintains speed on the flat and up hills, but, if going down a hill, the brakes now won't operate to reduce speed to the set speed. The speed just picks up and up.........

ABS is operating ok (if that's relevant!!). Cant find any details on the cruise or wiring diagrams in Haynes, and don't know where to start even! Help!!
