I've been worrying lately about Ford's influence on Volvo, having observed the Jag S-type which looks like remarkably like a Taurus with a different grille and rear. (Of course, that's partially true.) So I rooted around the internet a little and found a couple tidbits.
For instance, from an article about Daimler/Chrysler, I found this comment: "Ford has [has developed] both the Lincoln LS/Jaguar S-type from the corporate DEW98 platform and the new X-type Jag from Ford's Mondeo platform. The next generation of Taurus is said to be coming from Volvo's V70. Who wouldn't want press like that, exploiting the Swede's safety fetish into America's bread-and-butter sedan? " (The whole article is at http://www.allpar.com/ed/old/dumbing.html)
[ At least that's flowing in the right direction. I've been wondering about my escape route if/when Volvos get built on Ford's sucky platforms. ]
This reviewer loves the S-type: http://www.cvol.net/wheels/jaguar_s.htm but man, that's a lot of dough. The Volvo provides all of that for much le$$.
If you have spy reports, renderings or reports about what's coming, I'm curious.
