Dead battery 850 1993

My '93 850 won't start now because it has a dead battery. None of the electrical accessories are functioning. When we bought the car in Sept. '97, it still had the original factory battery. That one died in Aug. of '98, and we replaced it with another factory battery. I've heard that Volvo batteries only last an average of four years. Any advice, friends?
