ch changer installation in prewired 850 850

I have an '96 850 turbo that is prewired for a trunk mounted cd changer. I have an Alpine s620 with an adapter that would plug into the female mini-DIN connector on the headunit, but the mini-DIN connector on the end of the preinstalled trunk extention is male (same as vol-alp adapter). So, am I correct in that I cannot use the prewired extension but instead need to run the Alpine extension back up to the headunit?

It seems like a simple male-female mini-DIN converter would do, but I've never seen these...
