Test drove an 850R today. '96 with 60k at a non-Volvo new car dealership. It was overall in good shape, although lots of wear on the left side bolster of the driver's seat, and it needs a waxing. Drove nicely- they sure are fast!
Anyway, a few questions... first, there was a loud clunging sort of noise coming from the front right wheel. It feels like the strut mount (I think that's what it's called?) was a little loose, but not very. I looked under the car and didn't see anything that looked bad. Any thoughts? Is there anything I should look for? We pushed down on the suspension when the car was parked and there were no noises. But any bump and you'd hear it clunking. Didn't seem to affect driving.
Also, this was the first 850 I'd driven with a CD player. Couldn't get it to turn on, although the antenna would go up. Thoughts? Pushing OFF would get a display: OFF. But pushing it again and fiddling with the volume/mute button wouldn't get it to work. Is the radio dead?
Finally, given what I've said about this car... it's a 7 out of 10, what would you pay? exactly 60k in bright red. The service history in the book goes up to 30k, but I'll call around to see if I can locate the rest of it. There were no records with it, but that seems to be pretty common! Everything besides the radio worked well- seats, drove fine, rode well.
Thanks!
Andrew
