folks-
pls give me opinions. I looked at this car yesterday: 01 v70 2.4T with 28K miles. The seller is 2nd owner. I saw the service history and it looks pretty good, however there are two things that bother me.
First, the tires are very worn. The back tires (presumably used to be on front) need to be replaced now. as in, almost no tread. Front will need to be replaced very soon. maybe 5k miles left. The tires are the Michelin 205-55's, ummm I think the model was MVX-4 or something like that. I would expect an H rated tire (I think this tire is H rated, right?) to last 40-60K miles, NOT at 28K miles.
The other thing is that the guy showed me the inspection summary when he bought it. notes showed 40% brake pad up front, 60% in back. That seems like a LOT of wear for a 25K mile car. (car had 25K when he bought it).
this, to me, sounds like a lot of wear for a family car. I am afraid that the first owner may have pounded the car pretty hard. I am not so worried about the pads and tires themselves, but that they symptomatic of a hard life. What do you guys think?
the guy is asking a negotiable $28.9K.
btw, I am having a mechanic look it over on wed.
should I bite or cut bait?
