Just had my V40 2.0T serviced, and it got a new air filter as part of the service. I though it seemed a little down on pick-up from low rpm and generally lacking a bit of sparkle after the service, so I opened the filter box to have a look.
The new filter is the conventional pleated paper type, **but** with a bloody great slab of foam very crudely stuck to the bottom of it, presumably for intake silencing. The old (factory-fitted) OE Volvo filter was a simple pleated paper job -- so no wonder the car was lacking sparkle, it was gasping for breath through a double-thickness filter!
30 seconds' work peeling off the foam, and normal service was restored, the filter looked exactly as per the factory-fit item -- and the car was flying again, because it could actually breathe.
So if you're wondering where your poke went after your service, look no further than your airbox ....
