Extra charge for resetting service light?! 850 1995

Today my wife took my car to Dwyer Volvo in Commerce Twp., MI. It needed new rotors on the back end as well as an oil change (the service light was on). Being a "financially deficient" person, I don't follow the strict service schedule and just fix things as they need fixing. Anyway, after the job was complete ($350 total) she got in to drive home and noticed the service light had not been reset. She took the car back and asked the service manager about it and he said, "We don't reset the service light for oil changes--only regular service checks." She called my cellular and I asked the technician, "Well, if I don't want to follow the regular service schedule can you just reset it for me since I got the oil changed? It takes about 2 seconds to reset with the diagnostic tool..." He replied, "Yes we can reset it, but we charge an additional $30 to reset the service light after an oil change."

WHAT?! $34 for oil change + $30 to reset the service light?!

This, after I paid $320 to have the rear rotors changed? How much are they trying to squeeze out of me at one time?

I told him I would take my car to Sesi, the local Volvo dealer (whom I don't trust for any service of any kind) and have it reset there. And I mentioned that I would have all my future oil changes handled by somebody else as well. Is it worth losing $34 * 4 times/year * 5 years rather than losing $30 one time? I guess that's up to Mr. Dwyer to decide.

Anyway, I thought that was very strange... and something you might want to take into consideration if you ever think about getting an oil change at Dwyer Volvo.

Also, on another topic, do you think this has anything to do with the fact that my wife took the car instead of me? Whenever she takes a car for an oil change (no matter where she goes), they try to sell her synthetic. I've NEVER had anybody try to sell me synthetic. This is a strange coincidence.
