quick service light question 850

The service light on my '96 850t5 (96K miles) comes on when I start the car, then goes out after about 5 minutes of driving. As I am still new to Volvos, is this just a "reminder"? I plan to purchase the OBD-II laptop scanner from the OBD-II website, but I was just wondering if I need to be concerned in the short-term.

Also, the light-out indicator behaves similarly...on then off after a couple of minutes, but I can't find any lights in/on my car that are out. Anyone experienced this?
