I'll be as brief as possible but this is really weird! My family and I are about 5 miles from the US border and my wife asks me for the time, its 3:20, and we have a brief discussion about how tight the security will be for a Saturday afternoon. We get to the border and as we pull up to the welcome booths we realize that we had gone right past the duty free shop where we wanted to get our refund on the Canadian tax for a pair of figure skates that we had just purchased for our daughter! After answering a few questions,shutting of the car and opening our trunk, the US official said we were free to go. We politely mentioned that we need to somehow turn around and go back to the Canadian duty free shop, and was told that this would be no problem at all, BUT that we would have to go through US customs all over again! No problem we said, and we looped around, explained to the Canadian official what we were doing(she laughed)and said that our circular path has been done before. After a 5 min stop for our refund, we pull back up to the same US border official who pretended not to recognize us and did his routine and trunk inspection and said we were free to go........20 feet ahead where a US imigration official would be giving us a "random" check! This pistol armed man was as friendly as could be, after a split second glance in the trunk he proceeds to lean into the drivers side (I am still outside the car)and have a long 4-5 minute chat with my wife and daughter about growing up in the same town, where he and his daughters went to college....and where our daughter might be going.....I'm freezing my butt off and finally I'm back in the car and I stert to pull away when the 2 rifle toteing Vermont National Guardsman decide that they need to check my ('00 S40 w/45,000 miles, running great, thank you!)car out. This whole event took, we guess about 25-30 min and I had to explain to my daughter that while everyone was very friendly, that this was a common delaying tactic and that it was possible that during this time, someone pulled up who knows what on some computer about our family! Any way now to the really weird stuff!!!!!!! After zipping along for about 15 min(I guess, because I did not look at my clock) My wife again asked what time it was. 12:25 I said.......PAUSE.....12:25???????? I repeated....the clock on my Volvo says 12:25...Its wrong! and my watch said 4:10!!! Wow!!!!!!whats going on here............OH WOW!!!!!!!! check this out! My odometer says 21 miles! (I had reset it at the start of our trip!) 21 miles and we now are a little over 15 minutes away from the border........it all checks out.....but how??????????? What did Who do?????Is it the Canadians? Is it the US????? And how could they do this? I did have to shut the car off twice, I believe, and somehow someone/somthing zapped my car!!!!!!!!!!
