Air conditioner 850 1993

Is it possible to replace only the compressor clutch rather than the whole compressor? My compressor clutch locked up, complete with smoking, squealing belt. It now freely spins; no cycling and no cool air. It is too HOT in Florida to put up with that. The system pressure still seems to be okay leading me to believe only the clutch is bad. Does that seem reasonable? Would clutch replacement be a do it yourself job? (i'm reasonably handy, but no mechanic)
